 What is FUBI?

Eye Protection Factor

The FUBI Solar EPF provides consumers of non-prescription eyewear with valid and easy-to-compare scientific information about the solar protective qualities of sunglasses.
A value for each of four categories which can affect the health of the eye are combined to create the FUBI Solar EPF rating for a pair of sunglasses. The categories measured are
Frame coverage, Ultraviolet, Blue light, and Infrared, or FUBI.

What is the FUBI Solar
EPF?
The FUBI Solar EPF is a comprehensive solar rating system for sunglasses that measures every aspect of ability to block radiation from reaching eyes.
F (Frame coverage) measures the ability of the sunglass to protect the eye from radiation that does not go through the sunglass lens. This radiation comes around the sunglass lens or frame and still reaches the eye.
U measures the UVB and UVA, weights them, and averages them into one value.
B measures the ability of the sunglass to block the highest energy, potentially harmful, blue light portion of the visible spectrum.
I value measures the ability of the sunglass lens to block infrared radiation from reaching the eye.

These values are combined to create the Eye Protection Factor (EPF) value. The EPF value is a single number, ranging from approximately 70 at the lowest end to 100 at the highest end. The EPF is a scientifically derived and weighted average that fairly represents the solar protective quality of the sunglass product.

Our Polarized and Infrared safety glasses earn EPF ratings between 96.5 and 98.5, ranking us along with high-end sunglass brands in protection from damaging solar radiation. Add that protection to our ANSI z87.1+ high impact compliance, and the result is excellent value, at work or at play.

What does this mean to you?
Even a minimal amount of sun exposure can permanently damage eyes. The development of cataracts, one of the leading causes of blindness, has long been linked to long-term exposure to ultraviolet light. The simple act of donning defensive eyewear is an easy and inexpensive way to block the effects of toxic blue light, infrared, UVA and UVB radiation.
