Our Safety Eyewear follows the principal at the core of the Body Glove philosophy for over 50 years, and that is "fits like a glove." From the classic design of the V-Line and Polarized series to the bigger, bolder look of the V-Line Plus and on to the unique, bio-enhanced 459 series, your eyes will benefit from the protection offered by 8-base curve lenses, high-impact rating, comfortable safety glasses.
And, true to Body Glove's "All things water" theme, they float.
8-base curve single lens design offers affordable, stylish clarity with minimal distortion. Eyewear meets ANSI Z87.1+ (high-impact). H2 scratch-resistant coating provides long life. Patented foam rubber pads at the temples and frame interior enhance side-shield protection and fit.
Desert camouflage, black and white, or coordinated tan or gray neoprene insets run along the temples and allow glasses to float, just like traditional Body Glove surfer’s specs.
Glasses come with soft drawstring case and cord retainer with quick-release safety clips. Replacement black neoprene keeper strap also available. (Part no. 90213 see below)

Body Glove Bio™ Safety Glasses
Plastics that won't be around forever.
A new process developed in New Mexico entices bacteria to snack on plastic. Scientists have figured out how to modify plastics to retain the beneficial elements of plastic, but don’t allow them to hang around in landfills for thousands of years.
How it works:
With this new process, a tiny amount of bio-additive material is added to plastic during manufacturing, in the same way a color is added to create green or purple plastic. This additive's chemistry is designed to attract hungry microbes to plastic surfaces. It is such a small amount of food for such tiny diners that it doesn’t affect clarity or strength, which is why we can use this treated plastic to make clear safety glasses that pass the most current ANSI eyewear safety standards*.
When the plastic item is thrown away into an appropriate landfill, bacteria sense the food in the plastic and begin to congregate for a feast. (This won’t happen until the item is thrown away and buried, because the conditions outside of the landfill aren’t “feast-friendly.”) Bacteria gather on the plastic, and when enough of them gather, a process called “quorum sensing” takes place. True practitioners of “the more, the merrier” philosophy, bacteria secrete a substance that works like a chemical cell phone. They call all their friends to come over for dinner.
The microbial crowd gathers and breaks down the structure of the plastic, degrading it into the final products of stable humus (which balances soil pH and helps keep soils aerated) and methane (in anaerobic) or carbon dioxide (aerobic conditions). We’ve all heard a lot recently about increased amounts of methane gas harming the environment, but the methane produced as microbes degrade a product containing this additive is a normal byproduct of microbial metabolism. Just as you produce and exhale carbon dioxide (whether you’ve eaten an apple or a triple bacon cheeseburger), anaerobic bacteria will produce methane, whether they’ve degraded (digested) a banana peel or a pair of plastic safety glasses.
Don’t worry, unless you wear these safety glasses 10 feet underground, with your head stuck in the dirt, they won’t begin to disintegrate until they are buried in a landfill.
Support your local microbes. Without them, the Earth’s surface might be buried deep beneath leaves, grass clippings, and leftover tuna casserole.
*Our Decade Bio™ and Body Glove Bio™ safety glasses meet the ANSI Z87.1-2010 (high impact) eyewear standard.
Body Glove Bio™ 459 Series
The 459 series glasses are made using treated polycarbonate that, when buried in a landfill, attracts microbes which digest the plastic. Our polycarbonate safety glasses were found to biodegrade an average of 15.1% in the first 210 days under conditions that simulate a biologically-active landfill* using ASTM D5511.**
These glasses are designed to be converted to humus (balances soil pH, helps keep soils aerated) and methane (in anaerobic) or CO2 (in aerobic conditions) in a small fraction of the time it takes untreated plastics to degrade just to smaller bits of plastic.
Stylish, ANSI Z87.1-2010 compliant Body Glove Bio 459 Series glasses will help meet your corporate and personal environmental goals.
Sporty, sculpted, semi-rimless frames. Softer temple ends and nose pads gently grip for secure, comfortable fit. Glasses come to you packaged in a pouch made with corn starch.
Eyewear starts to degrade only after it’s buried in a viable landfill or similar environment.
* Actual biodegradation rates vary in landfills according to moisture level. Present tests at ~45% solids content are representative of wetter landfills, such as in the southeastern US.
**ASTM D5511 specifies “This test method may also resemble some conditions in biologically active landfills where the gas generated is recovered and biogas production is even actively promoted.”
